Media refers to various channels or tools used to communicate information, entertainment, or education to the public. Media is a critical tool for promoting social change and addressing social issues. Through the media, individuals and groups are able to raise awareness, advocate for change, and engage in collective action. For example, 'EndBadGovernment', we are all aware of the current issue of minors seized during the protest. In less than a week, people used the media to bring an end to the trial, and even Tinubu promised to probe the case after giving an immediate order to release them. The movement has relied on the media to mobilize public support and achieve its goals. However, the Siman Abbas case also showed the power of the media. Nigerians have to know the importance of the media as an agent of social change in the world.
The world has already developed. Media serves as an important agent for development in the Global North, whereas in the Global South it's just a means of entertainment. As long as Nigerians are ready to fight against all the challenges they face, media will help them. We have been witnessing the influence of media in Nigeria, politicians have been using it to gain our support. So, why don't we also use it to fight for our rights, just as we did during the Siman Abbas case and the recent case of those malnourished minors charged with treason?
Research has shown that media plays a significant role in shaping social norms and promoting social change. It can influence attitudes and behaviors by providing information, raising awareness, and facilitating coordination among individuals and groups.
Fellow Nigerians, particularly my northern brethren, I urge you to recognize the transformative power of media, especially social media, in driving development. The world has moved forward, leveraging media to foster growth and progress. However, we seem to be lagging behind despite being the majority. Why? We've overlooked the strategic potential of our population and the media's influence.
It's time to bridge this gap! Let's harness the media to amplify our voices and concerns. And drive social change and community development. Let's tap into the possibilities of media to shape our future and create a better Nigeria for all.
Together, we can make a difference! Good bless Nigeria.
